Membership growth FAQs

Quick answers for unit leaders building a sustainable recruiting and onboarding rhythm.

What’s the best time of year to recruit?

Most units see strong results in late summer and early fall, but a quarterly “join us” moment (fall, winter, spring, early summer) keeps momentum year-round.

How many events should we run to recruit?

Aim for one low-lift outreach touchpoint per month (school, community, social) plus one quarterly invite event. Consistency beats big one-offs.

How do we help new families feel like they belong?

Assign a welcome contact, share a simple “what to expect” guide, and invite parents into small roles early (snack lead, driver, committee helper).

What should we say when families ask about costs?

Be transparent and simple: registration, uniform basics, and typical activity costs. Offer a one-page overview and highlight available assistance options.

How do we recruit older youth for troops, crews, or posts?

Lead with adventure and purpose: high-interest activities, leadership opportunities, and service. Partner with schools and community orgs where teens already gather.

Where can we find ready-to-share materials?

Check the Templates & Downloads library for flyers, social graphics, welcome checklists, and planning tools you can customize.
